2 Tesco customers run 4 marathons in 4 days
Tesco fundraisers join together with Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation (BHF) to save lives
Two Tesco customers from Northern Ireland have raised more than £2,000 by completing four marathons in four days. They were raising funds for the National Charity Partnership between Tesco, Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation (BHF).
The fundraising event, for Diabetes UK and the BHF, saw both men complete the gruelling 105 miles in just over 17 hours. On day fourth the men completed their fourth marathon in the quickest time, in just four hours and four minutes. The two men, Nigel McNeill from Aghadowey and John Butcher from Limavady, know each other through their local running club and after hearing about the fundraising that Tesco colleagues are doing, felt compelled to help. The money raised will help to fund projects across the UK which will encourage millions of people to reduce their risk of heart disease and Type 2 diabetes by leading a healthier lifestyle.
Commented Nigel McNeill, one the two men taking part: “My wife Angie is the Counters’ Manager at Tesco in Ballymoney. She’s been getting involved in a lot of fundraising at work recently and after hearing what the money raised is going towards I felt completely inspired. I wanted to help her and Tesco and I knew that my friend John would too. The marathon challenge was not easy but it was worth every penny raised. I’m delighted to have donated the £2,000 raised to Tesco.”

The money raised by taking on this challenge will help us to provide projects across Northern Ireland that will help people to live healthier lifestyles and help to prevent these conditions. By supporting us you have all played a part in helping people live longer, healthier lives.”
The three year partnership between Tesco, Diabetes UK and the BHF aims to raise millions of pounds to help save lives through helping millions of people to eat better and get active, reducing their risk of serious ill-health in the future, as well as helping to fund the vital work of the BHF and Diabetes UK across the UK.
